Sonya Cuddy - Director, Drama Teacher and Choreographer

Sonya is the Creative Director,

Drama and Dance

Teacher

at Speak Out Drama.

She holds both a Licentiate Diploma in Speech and Drama and Certificate in Drama Education from Griffith College Dublin. Sonya also trained in Voice whilst taking her Speech and Drama Exams with The Leinster School of Music and Drama.

Sonya has been performing on stage since the year 2000; playing several roles including Rizzo in Grease, Annie in Annie, Waitress #1 in Rock of Ages, and Gert in Big Maggie. Her most recent performance was “Titanic, the Musical” with Portlaoise Musical Society in 2018 which won Best Overall Show at AIMS 2019. Sonya is still heavily involved in the musical scene in Portlaoise.

After finishing her Senior Advanced in Drama, Sonya trained in Hip Hop Dance with Streets Ahead Dance Studios and Fit Kids Fit Teens with whom she competed alongside at several competitions across the country.

When she’s not teaching; Sonya likes to write short stories, pantomime scripts and poetry. Sonya is also a fully qualified Healthcare Assistant and worked in Hospitals and Residential Care Settings for Five Years.

Sonya’s claims to fame was when she auditioned for “The Voice of Ireland” in 2013 and met one of her idols “Laura Bell Bundy (Elle Woods)” from Legally Blonde the Musical in 2015.

Sonya loves nothing more than seeing the joy develop in her student’s eyes as they delve into the wonderful world of Speech and Drama, a world she entered twenty years ago.
